Dr. Harakeye is the current Head of the Social Affairs Department at the African Union Commission (AUC). Until recently, she was in charge of the HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and others infectious diseases (OIDs) division within the African Union, which provides technical support to ensure that the AUC plays its role as a leading continental role on the control of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB and NTDs Control. In addition, she managed strategic partnerships for the AIDS, TB, Malaria and NTDs responses and implementation of relevant decisions, resolutions and health related commitments made by African top leaders. Dr. Harakeye also managed the AIDS Watch Africa platform for high level advocacy and accountability for AIDS, TB and Malaria response at the African Union.
She holds a Doctorate degree in General Medicine from the University of Burundi as well as a degree in Epidemiology from the University of Bordeaux, France, a degree in Maternal and New-born Health from the University of Paris V and a Masters degree in Health Economics from University of Senegal.
