Box 10. Applying IR to climate-informed disease surveillance

MalaClim is a climate-informed health initiative that integrates meteorological data with malaria case records to explore links between climate variability and vector-borne disease, aiming to develop an early warning system in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.60 Applying an IR lens can support efforts to scale and adapt the initiative by identifying implementation bottlenecks, assessing feasibility across diverse settings and strengthening stakeholder collaboration.13 Tools such as concept mapping can help explore contextual factors influencing uptake, identify enabling and constraining conditions, and generate evidence on what drives the success or failure of climate-sensitive interventions in different environments.61
