Universal Health Coverage: Building Resilient, Sustainable and Equitable Systems for Health
12 December 2025Universal health coverage (UHC) is a driver of sustainable development and a foundation of human security. It ensures people can access essential health services without financial hardship, reflecting the 2030 Agenda’s commitment to leave no one behind. As inequalities widen, climate and health risks intensify and public finances tighten, UHC is even more central to protecting lives, dignity and well-being. However, progress toward UHC has stalled, with 4.5 billion people still lacking essential services, and nearly 2 billion facing financial hardship due to health costs.
