Legal and Policy Coherence to Promote Access to Health Technologies in the United Republic of Tanzania
18 January 2017An integral part of a sustainable health delivery system is the ability to facilitate equitable access to, and delivery of, the needed health services and technologies. Given that these goals will intersect with sectors beyond public health, there is a need to strengthen policy coherence across these sectors, particularly domestic R&D, pharmaceutical production and medicines regulatory capacities. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the feasibility and prospects of policy alignment in Tanzania, not just between various sectors at the national level, but also examine how national level policies can be better aligned with continental and sub-regional frameworks, in order to advance priorities for access and delivery of health technologies. This report will stimulate further discussions around setting a national policy agenda for greater policy coherence and alignment with regional initiatives that address common challenges in meeting desired health outcomes.
