How local production of pharmaceuticals can be promoted in Africa: the case of Ghana

The promotion of local pharmaceutical production is increasingly recognised as an important strategic element in the development of a sustainable public health system. In this context, this study documents past experiences and present status of the pharmaceutical industry in Ghana. It identifies linkages and alignment between the strategic priorities of regional frameworks with national-level implementation, providing valuable insights to policy makers in Ghana on the feasibility for a viable local industry without sacrificing affordability and accessibility of medicines.
